Across the Strait to Sakhalin: Details of UST Inc.’s Unique Project

Specialists at UST Inc. continue to work on a transport and infrastructure complex designed to connect Sakhalin Island with mainland Russia. The concept provides for the transportation of both passengers and cargo, as well as integration into the country's unified transportation and logistics system.

To ensure operation in the region’s harsh climatic conditions, a double-track membrane-type air tunnel has been proposed. Its key element is a prestressed string rail that has no expansion joints along its entire length and is supported by rigid truss crossbeams. This technical solution ensures the structure’s stability under significant temperature fluctuations and wind loads.
